A Letter to Our Patients

Dear Patients,

Because we value you and your trust in us, we wanted to take a moment to let you know of some changes that will be coming to our practice soon.

Many of your physicians probably already use electronic medical records (EMR). You may or may not realize that the government is requiring healthcare providers to begin using EMR by 2015, or they will be penalized.

So, about a year ago, we started the transition to EMR. We expect to start using them in our office at the end of April 2013.

What does this mean for you? For one, we will have to schedule fewer patients each day as we learn how to use the EMR while seeing patients. As a result, you may have to wait a little longer to get an appointment, but only for a time.

Also, your wait in the office may be a little longer, because documenting each patient’s visit in the EMR will take some time to learn at the beginning. However, we hope scheduling fewer patients each day will help with this issue.

We’ll also be incorporating an online patient portal, which will enable you to fill out your patient registration forms online before you come to your appointment. This will help you spend less time in our office in two ways:

  1. You won’t have to come in early to fill out paperwork before your appointment.
  2. We’ll already have all your information in our system. So when you sign in, all we have to do is put your chart in the queue instead of having to enter your information into our system manually.

Although the transition might be difficult in the beginning, we hope it will ultimately improve our efficiency and your experience in the office. We ask you to bear with us as we learn a new way of doing things. As always, we appreciate your trust and will continue striving to provide you with excellent care!

Many thanks,

Dr. Freeman & Staff
